     Leonard Arnold Freeman was born on 9 April 1922 at Springfield, Massachusetts.1,2,3,4,5,6 He was the son of Leonard Freeman and Ruth Courtney. Leonard, age 8, appeared on the US Census of 1930 living at 132 Bond Street, Springfield, Massachusetts,in the household of his parents, Leonard and Ruth Freeman.7 Leonard, age 17 years, appeared on the US Census of 1940 at Springfield, Massachusetts.He was divoced and an orderly at the Springfield Hospital.8

Leonard married first on 19 December 1941 at Enfield, Connecticut, Claire Belisle.9 During World War II, he enlisted 20 December 1941 in the US Navy, and was discharged 2 November 1951. He was a medical corpsmen during the Korean War.4,6 Leonard registered for the draft giving his age as 21 and he was unemployed on 2 October 1943 at 140 Abbe Avenue, Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts.2 Leonard, age 27 years, appeared on the US Census of 1950 at Springfield, Massachusetts, with his first wife, Claire.10

Leonard Arnold Freeman married Bessie Louise Burnett, daughter of Murvil Francis Burnett and Irene Francelia Eddy.6 In 1983, the year Leonard died, he lived at Easthampton, Massachusetts.3 He died on 1 August 1983 at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, Massachusetts, at age 61.1,3,4,5,6 Leonard's obituary of 3 August 1983, reads:

Leonard A. Freeman, 61, of 35 Parsons St., Easthampton, retired nursing assistant for Hampshire County Hospital, Northampton, died Monday in Baystate Medical Center, Springfield Unit. He was the husband " of Bessie L. (Burnette) Freeman.

He was born in Springfield, April 9, 1922, son of the late Leonard and Ruth (Courtney) Freeman, and lived in Northampton before moving to Easthampton 12 years ago. He retired in April 1981 and previously worked for American Bosch Division of United Technologies Corp., Springfield, and Savage Arms Co. and the former Uniroyal Inc., both Chicopee.

He was past president of the former Fruehauf International Association of Machinists.

Mr. Freeman was a Navy veteran of World War II and a medical corpsman in the Korean War. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Northampton, and a former member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 352, Springfield.

Besides his wife, he leaves : a son, Leonard A. Freeman of Westfield; two stepsons, Richard D. Gore of Worcester and Robert E. Gore of Athol; two daughters, Dawn L. Brooks of England and Theresa J. Leonard of Easthampton; a sister, Pearl D'Angelo of Chicopee; 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The funeral will be Friday morning in St. John's Episcopal Church, Northampton. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery there. Pease Funeral Home, 425 Prospect St., Northampton, is in charge of arrangements.
