     Clyde Austin Leonard was born on 25 July 1913 at Derby, Vermont.1,2,3,4,5,6 He was the son of William Ernest Leonard and Carrie Mary Facteau.1 Clyde, age 6, appeared on the US Census of 1920 living at Newport, Vermont,in the household of his parents, William Ernest and Carrie Mary Leonard.7 Clyde, age 16, appeared on the US Census of 1930 living at Grover, Vermont,in the household of his parents, William Ernest and Carrie Mary Leonard. He was a turner in a wood heel shop.8

Clyde, age 26, appeared on the US Census of 1940 living at 17 East Myrtle Street, Orange, Franklin County, Vermont,in the household of his parents, William Ernest and Carrie Mary Leonard. He is listed as married, but his wife is not with him.10 Clyde registered for the draft giving his age as 27 and his employer as the Ruthland Sanitarium on 16 October 1940 at 161 Wallnut Hill, Orange, Massachusetts.3 Clyde, age 36 years, appeared on the US Census of 1950 at 77 West Main Street, Orange, Massachusetts. While listed as married, his wife was not listed, but his daughter, Evelyn, age 15, was listed. He was working at the Twist Drill Company.11

Clyde Austin Leonard married Bessie Louise Burnett, daughter of Murvil Francis Burnett and Irene Francelia Eddy, in 1953 at Warwick, Massachusetts.12 In 1989, the year Clyde died, he lived at 53 Thayer Road, Athol, Worcester County, Massachusetts.13,6 He died on 31 January 1989 at Franklin Medical Center, Greenfield, Massachusetts, at age 75.13,2,4,5 Clyde's obituary of 1 February 1989, reads:

GREENFIELD - Clyde A. Leonard, 75, of 53 Thayer Road, a former 30-year machinist at Union Twist Drill Co. of Athol, died Tuesday in Franklin Medical Center. He retired in 1972.

Born in Glover, Vt., July 25, 1913, the son of William and Caroline (Facto) Leonard, he lived in the Athol and Orange area before moving to Greenfield last year.

He leaves a daughter, Theresa Kolowski of Easthampton; two stepsons, Richard D. Gore of California and Robert E. Gore of Athol; a stepdaughter, Dawn L. Brooks of Orlando, Fla; a fosterdaughter, Cynthia Finn of Athol; three brothers, Alden Leonard of Orange, Elwin Leonard of Florida and d Morris Leonard of North Carolina; two sisters, Hazel Currier of Newport, Vt., and Jenieva Fairbrother of Dover, Del; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be private. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lung Association, 393 Maple St., Springfield, 01105.

Clyde was buried at Pine Grove Cemetery, Newport, New Hampshire.2
