     Lionel Hartley Buck was born on 1 April 1850 at Sheffield, West Riding, Yorkshire, England.3,4,5 He was the son of Walter Mansfield Buck and Charlotte Hepworth.2 Lionel Hartley Buck immigrated in 1857 to Canada with his parents.4 Lionel appeared on the Canadian Census of 1861 at Saint Andrews, Charlotte County, New Brunswick, British North America, in the household of his parents, Walter Mansfield and Charlotte Buck.6 Lionel Hartley Buck appeared on the Canadian Census of 1871 in Chatham, Northumberland County, New Brunswick, Canada, in the household of his parents. His religion was the Church of England.7 According to the Canadian Census in 1871, Lionel was a railroad clerk.7 Lionel appeared on the Canadian Census of 1881 at Moncton, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada, in the household of his parents, Walter Mansfield and Charlotte Buck.8

Lionel Hartley Buck, age 32, married Isbella Whelpley, age 20 , daughter of Captain David C. Whelpley and Harriet Jane Pangbourne, on 19 October 1882 at the New Brunswick, Canada.

Lionel, age 40 years, and Isbella Buck, age 29 years appeared on the Canadian Census of 1891 at Upper Stewiacke, Colchester Count, Nova Scotia, Canada.9 Lionel was a civil engineer. He was also listed as a civil engineer on the 1901 and 1911 Canadian Censuses in 1891.9,3,4 Lionel, age 50 years, appeared on the Canadian Census of 1901 at Kootenay, British Columbia, Canada.3 Lionel, age 60 years, appeared on the Canadian Census of 1911 at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.4 On 7 April 1913, he was pre-examined in Vancouver, British Columbia for entry into the the United States. His planned entry date was 10 April 1913 and his destination was Los Angeles, California.10 He died on 23 May 1929 at San Francisco, California, at age 79.11
