Agnes S. Travis

     Agnes S. Travis was born on 10 April 1830 at Yorktown, Westchester County, New York.^1,2 She was the daughter of Joseph Travis and Abigail Tompkins. Agnes S. Travisappeared on the US Census of 1850 in the household of Joseph Travis and Abigail Tompkins at Cortlandt, Westchester County, New York.³ According to the Federal Census in 1850, Agnes was a laborer.³ As of 1851,her married name was McCord.

Agnes S. Travis married William James McCord, son of Saul McCord and Lavina Briggs, in 1851.



Agnes, age 29 years, and William Travis, age 35 years, appeared on the US Census of 1860 at Yorktown, Westchester County, New York, with William's parents.⁴ Agnes, age 39 years, and William Travis, age 45 years, appeared on the US Census of 1870 at Brooklyn, New York.⁵ Agnes, age 44 years, and William, age 50 years , appeared on the New York State Census of 1875 at Brooklyn, New York.⁶ Agnes, age 49 years, appeared on the US Census of 1880 at Brooklyn, New York. She was listed as married, but her husband is not on the census record.⁷ She died on 15 September 1881 at Kings County, New York, at age 51. She was buried at Yorktown Church Cemetery, Yorktown, Westchester County, New York. Agnes's epitaph reads:
