Joseph Roy
     Joseph Roy was born on 21 February 1864 at Montréal, Québec, Canada.1,2,3 He was christened in the Basilique Notre-Dame de Montréal, Montréal, Québec, Canada.4 He was the son of Joseph Roy and Marie-Adelaide Gagnon. Joseph's was early education was at Montréal, Québec, Canada.3 Joseph immigrated with his family on 1 March 1877 to Cohoes, Albany County, New York.5 Joseph, age 16, appeared on the US Census of 1880 living at 119 Wilmar Avenue, Cohoes, Albany County, New York,in the household of his parents, Joseph and Roy.6 According to the census in 1880, Joseph was a cabinet maker.6 He was naturalized in 1887.1,7

Joseph Roy, age 23, married Evangalina Manny, age 19 , daughter of Joseph Napoléon Many and Marie-Marguerite Poirier, on 27 June 1887 at the Cohoes, Albany County, New York.1,8 Joseph Roy appeared as Head of Household with Eva, his wife, on the United States Census of 1900 at 20 Mansion Street, Glenville, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.1 According to the census in 1900, Joseph was a pattern maker at the Schneider-Trenkamp Stove Company which later merged with the American Stove Company.1,3 Joseph Roy appeared as Head of Household with Eva, his wife, on the United States Census of 1910 at 10611 Hampden Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio.9 According to the census in 1910, Joseph was draftsman a stove factory.9 Joseph Roy appeared as Head of Household with Eva, his wife, on the United States Census of 1920 at 10622 Hampden Avenue, Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.10 According to the census in 1920, Joseph was an assistant superintendent at a stove manufacturing company.10 Joseph Roy appeared as Head of Household with Eva, his wife, on the United States Census of 1930 at 10622 Hampden Avenue, Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.11 According to the census in 1930, Joseph was a superintendent at a stove factory.11 He was retired in 1930; from the American Stove Company.3 In 1935 Joseph and Eva lived at Natchez, Adams County, Mississippi.12 Joseph Roy appeared as Head of Household with Eva, his wife, on the United States Census of 1940 at 10622 Hampden Avenue, Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.13 Joseph Roy, age 86, appeared on the US Census of 1950 living at 21761 Maydale Street, Euclid, Cuyahoga County, Ohio,in the household of his son Elmer Francis and his daughter-in-law, Virginia Delight Roy. His father lived with them.14 Joseph Roy died on 12 August 1951 at Euclid, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, at the home of his son, Elmer, at age 87.2,3 Joseph's obituary of 16 August 1951, reads:


Joseph Roy, 87, retired general superintendent of the reliable division of the American Stove co.3


Joseph was buried at Knollwood Cemetery, Mayfield Height, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. The services were conducted by the Rev. M. Wayne McQueeen of Windermere Church.2,3

Immigration: The 1900 Census lists his immigration year as 1888, while the 1930 gives 1875. Neither appears to be accurate.
