Mary A. Maloney was born on 18 May 1881 at Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.3,4,5 She was the daughter of Michael J. Maloney and Elizabeth E. "Eliza" Allen.2 Mary, age 19, appeared on the US Census of 1900 living at Lenox, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania,in the household of her parents, Michael J. and Elizabeth E. "Eliza" Maloney.3 Mary, age 26, appeared on the US Census of 1910 living at Lenox, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania,in the household of her father, Michael J. Maloney.6 As of 16 June 1914,her married name was Gallagher.1
Mary A. Maloney, age 33, married Edward J. Gallagher, age 35 , son of Francis Gallagher and Anna Elizabeth Donovan, on 16 June 1914 at the Church of the Nativity of Our Lord, Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.
Edward and Mary's wedding announcement of 17 June 1914, reads:
Mary, age 38 years, and Edward, age 40 years, appeared on the US Census of 1920 on 1414 Adams Avenue, Dunmore, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.8 Mary, age 48 years, and Edward, age 50 years, appeared on the US Census of 1930 on 1622 Wyoming Avenue, Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania. Mary, age 58 years, and Edward, age 60 years, appeared on the US Census of 1940 on 1622 Wyoming Street, Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.9 Mary A. Maloney died on 28 August 1971 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Carbondale, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, at age 90 from myocardial infarction due to arteriosclerotic heart disease.4,5
Mary's obituary of 30 August 1971, reads:
Mrs. Mary A. Gallagher, 89, Nicholson, RD. 1, died Saturday in St. Joseph's Hospital, Carbondale, after an illness.
Born in Scranton, she resided in the Nicholson area 25 years and was the daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth Allen Maloney. She member of St. Patrick's Church, Nicholson.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John Butler, Nicholson, RD; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sister Mary Cyril, Sisters of Mercy, Harrisburg; John Waldschmitt and Mrs. Elizabeth Mitchell, both of Harrisburg; a brother, John Maloney, Nicholson, RD;' and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday from George G. Renville Funeral Home, State Street, Nicholson, with mass at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church. Interment, parish cemetery.
Friends may call 8 to 10 p.m; Tuesday 3 Ito 5, 8 to 10 p.m. Rosary recital Tuesday at:8 p.m.
