    John W. Oakes Sr.
    Albion

    John W. Oakes Sr., 77, of Albion, died Monday, 11 September 1995, in Oaklawn Hospital, Marshall, after a long illness.

    He was born Dec. 31, 1917, in New Florence, Pa., to John W. and Florence M. (Kepner) Oakes and moved to Albion in 1984 from Eckford.

    He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II with the Seabees in the South Pacific.

    Mr. Oakes was employed for 19 years as an electrician at Hayes-Albion Corp. before retiring in 1982.

    He married Leila L. Jones on Dec. 22, 1958, in Coldwater. She died May 4, 1988.

    Also preceding him in death were three sisters.

    Surviving are sons, John W. Oakes Jr. of Homer and Marvin J. Oakes of Coldwater; daughters, Leila L. Rizzo of Marshall and Betty, Joan and Janet of Pennsylvania; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

    Community involvement, hobbies: Former member and governor of Albion Moose Lodge.

    Services: 1 p.m. today in Fort Custer National Cemetery with a Veterans Affairs chaplain officiating.

    Arrangements: Albion Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels.
