  During a church service, Mary disputed some statements which had been made by the Rev. Joseph Rowlandson, the minister in Lancaster about her mother. She was brought to court for this, being charged with "bold and vnbesseming speeches vsed in the Publique Assembly on the Lords day and especially agst Mr Rowlason minister of Godds word."
