     Joan Marie Gaughan J.D. was born on 20 October 1952 at Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, the twin of John Robert.1,2 She was the daughter of John Robert Gaughan and Margaret Mary Clark. When her father died, in April 1976, Joan lived at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.3 She died on 18 March 2014 at Hospice Care at Goodwin House Bailey's Crossroads, Falls Church (city), Virginia, at age 61.1,2 Joan's obituary of 23 March 2014, reads:

Joan Marie Gaughan died after a brief illness on Tuesday, March 18th surrounded by her family and caregivers in Hospice Care at Goodwin House Bailey's Crossroads in Falls Church, Virginia. She was a longtime resident of the Philadelphia area. Most recently Joan served as Director of Compliance and Governance for Gaudenzia, a nonprofit organization that helps people affected by addictions and or mental illness to achieve a better quality of life. Prior to joining Gaudenzia, she was a Compliance and Government Relations Specialist for Health America's Medicaid Programs. She has over 20 years experience in the private practice of law specializing in ERISA litigation and benefits administration.

Joan Gaughan earned a B.A. magna cum laude, from Syracuse University and a Juris Doctor Degree from Duquesne University School of Law. She has completed course work for a Master's in Public Administration from the Pennsylvania State University and has a certificate in Addiction Studies from Villanova University. Joan was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Margaret Clark Gaughan and John R. Gaughan. She is survived by her twin brother John R. Gaughan, Jr. (Kathy), and brother William Clark Gaughan (Carolyn) and sisters Margaret Gaughan Ziegenfuss (James) and Rosemari Gaughan Sullivan (Edmund). Nine nieces and nephews, their spouses and children also survive her.

Mass of Christian burial will be at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Church, 2800 Paxton Church Rd., Harrisburg, PA at 11:00 am, March 29, 2014. A second memorial service will be held at Christ Church, 20 North American Street, Philadelphia, PA at 2:00 pm, March 30, 2014. The family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to The Goodwin House Foundation, 4800 Filmore Avenue, Alexandria, Virginia 22311.
