MRS. ELIZABETH BRINDLE died at the family home, on West Main street, last Tuesday evening, after a short illness with pneumonia and was buried Friday afternoon, the funeral services being in charge of her pastor, Rev. Wells. Deceased was one of the town's oldest residents. She was born in Smithfield, Va., November 10, 1813, and came with her parents to Hillsboro twenty years later, where on January 23, 1834, she was married to Jacob Brindle, the couple coming to Wilmington in the June following, where they have since resided. Ten years later Mr. Brindle built the house where they spent nearly all their married life and where Mrs. Brindle died. In January last they celebrated the sixtyeighth anniversary of their marriage, but now the aged husband is left to mourn the loss of one who was spared to him far beyond the allotted span of life. Four children were born to the couple, only two of whom survive, John Wesley, of Wilmington, and Philip, of Columbus. A granddaughter, Miss Fanny Edgar, has made her home with them for some years and looked tenderly after their comforts. When but twelve years of age Mrs. Brindle joined the Methodist Church and had been an earnest and faithful member ever since. The Brindle home was for many years a headquarters for Methodist ministers and all were always made welcome there. Forty -six years ago Rev. George W. Walker, the Presiding Elder of this district, was taken sick while in Wilmington and lay for two weeks in the Brindle home, Mrs. Brindle caring for him, before death claimed him. In her later years she was an invalid and unable to attend church services, but was always glad to receive her pastor at home and only a few hours before her death expressed her perfect faith in the future and her willingness to go. A good woman has passed to her reward and the aged husband, sons and grandchildren have the sympathy of their friends in the bereavement.
