Catherine Anne Brindle

     Catherine Anne Brindle was born on 3 February 1837 at Unity Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.^1,2,3 She was the daughter of John W. Brindle and Mary Anne Hanlin. Catherine Anne Brindle went by the nick-name of Hannah. Catherine, age 11, appeared on the US Census of 1850 living at Unity Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania,in the household of her parents, John W. and Mary Anne Brindle.⁴ Catherine, age 22, appeared on the US Census of 1860 living at Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania,in the household of her parents, John W. and Brindle.⁵ As of 1864,her married name was Best.

Catherine Anne Brindle married Joseph Best, son of James B. Best and Margaret Wadsworth, in 1864.



Catherine, age 32 years, and Joseph Best, age 29 years, appeared on the US Census of 1870 at North Versailles Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.⁶ Catherine, age 42 years, and Joseph Best, age 39 years, appeared on the US Census of 1880 at Wilkins Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.⁷ Catherine, age 62 years, and Joseph Best, age 59 years, appeared on the US Census of 1900 at Jefferson, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, Catherine is listed as "Hannah" on the census register.² According to the Federal Census in 1900, Catherine was a farmer.² Catherine, age 72 years, and Joseph, age 69 years, appeared on the US Census of 1910 on West Elizabeth and Finleyville, Jefferson, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.⁸ According to the Federal Census in 1910, Catherine was a farmer.⁸ She died on 21 April 1911 at Jefferson, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, at age 74 from aortic stenosis.^1,3 Catherine was buried on 24 April 1911 at James Chapel Cemetery, Gastonville, Washington County, Pennsylvania.^1,3 Her estate was probated on 25 April 1911 at Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.⁹
