     Hirum Fairbanks was born on 2 October 1815 at Turner, Maine.1,2,3 He was the son of Joel Fairbanks and Judith Bradford. According to Lorenzo Fairbanks (1897), "When a young man he removed to North Monmouth with his father, and became a skillful worker in wood. Later he settled in Auburn, where he pursued the trade of carpenter and builder. He was for a time engaged in the manufacture of doors, sashes and blinds, in Lewiston, with his brother. He was a zealous member of the Court Street Baptist Church."1

Hirum married first on 4 July 1842 at Auburn, Maine, Nancy Jones. She died 4 January 1848 in Auburn, Maine.1

Hirum Fairbanks, age 33, married Betsey Hatch Woodman, age 28 , daughter of Jacob Woodman and Hannah Hatch, on 20 June 1849 at Auburn, Maine.

Hirum, age 34 years, and Betsey Fairbanks, age 29 years, appeared on the US Census of 1850 at Danville, Maine.6 According to the Federal Census in 1850, Hirum was a carpenter.6 Hirum, age 44 years, and Betsey Fairbanks, age 39 years, appeared on the US Census of 1860 at Milford, Massachusetts.7 According to the Federal Census in 1860, Hirum was a carpenter.7 Hirum, age 54 years, and Betsey Fairbanks, age 49 years, appeared on the US Census of 1870 at Auburn, Maine.8 According to the Federal Census in 1870, Hirum was a carpenter.8 Hirum, age 64 years, and Betsey, age 59 years, appeared on the US Census of 1880 on 46 Pleasant Street, Auburn, Maine.9 According to the Federal Census in 1880, Hirum was a carpenter.9 He died on 18 March 1886 at Auburn, Maine, at age 70.1,2,3,10 Hirum was buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, Auburn, Maine.2,3
