     Isaac Travis was born on 7 December 1827 at New York City, New York State.1 He was the son of Joseph Travis and Abigail Tompkins. Isaac, age 22 years, appeared on the US Census of 1850 at Ossining, Westchester County, New York. He was a cabinet maker.2

Isaac Travis, age 22, married Harriet Dowdell, age 15 , daughter of Luke Dowdell and Sarah Whitley, on 9 July 1850 at New York City, New York.

Isaac, age 32 years, and Harriet Travis, age 24 years, appeared on the US Census of 1860 at Cortlandt, Westchester County, New York.4 According to the Federal Census in 1860, Isaac was a carpenter.4 Isaac enlisted 28 October 1862 in Newburgh, New York and was mustered in on 23 January 1863. On 10 February 1863. he deserted in New York City.5,6 He died on 25 May 1864 at Campbell Hospital, Washington, District of Columbia, at age 36.1
