John Nixon Mitchell, age 21, married Madelyn A Quinn, age 27 , daughter of Michael J. Quinn and CatherineA. Boyle, on 21 May 1915 at Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

He gave his birth year as 1893, making himself look younger.9 John, age 26 years, and Madelyn, age 31 years, appeared on the US Census of 1920 on 306 Howard Street, East Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.10 John was a guide setter in a steel mill in 1920.10 John, age 36 years, and Madelyn, age 41 years, appeared on the US Census of 1930 on 116 West Swissvale Street, Edgewood, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.11 John was a building supply stockman in 1930.11 John, age 46 years, and Madelyn, age 51 years, appeared on the US Census of 1940 on 200 Elne Street, Edgewood, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.2 According to the Federal Census in 1940, John was a shearman.2 On in 1943, John registered for the World War II draft, while living at 200 Elm Street, Edgewood, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, giving his age as 48 and his employer as Carnegie Steel Company.12 John, age 56 years, and Madelyn Mitchell, age 61 years, appeared on the US Census of 1950 at 601 Jones Avenue, North Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.13 According to the Federal Census in 1950, John was a steel mill worker.13 In 1984, the year John died, he lived at West Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.4 He died on 22 April 1984 at Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, at age 90.3,4 John was buried at All Saints Braddock Catholic Cemetery, Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, in section 1.3
